§1 λούεταί τις ταχέως· μὴ εἴπῃς ὅτι κακῶς, ἀλλʼ ὅτι ταχέως. πίνει τις πολὺν οἶνον· μὴ εἴπῃς ὅτι κακῶς, ἀλλʼ ὅτι πολύν. πρὶν γὰρ διαγνῶναι τὸ δόγμα, πόθεν οἶσθα, εἰ κακῶς; οὕτως οὐ συμβήσεταί σοι ἄλλων μὲν φαντασίας καταληπτικὰς λαμβάνειν, ἄλλοις δὲ συγκατατίθεσθαι.

The Editor

Karl Schenkl (1827–1900) was an Austrian classical scholar and Professor at the Universities of Innsbruck, Graz, and Vienna. He produced Teubner editions of several Greek and Latin authors, including Epictetus. Schenkl was known for his careful manuscript collation and his contributions to the Corpus Scriptorum Ecclesiasticorum Latinorum (CSEL).
