Kylix Depicting Kalydonian Boar Hunt

Black-figure 6256 · Kylix · mid 6th century BCE (Archaic)

The band of decoration on this band cup (kylix), also sometimes referred to as a Little Master Cup, shows a boar hunt on each side, perhaps referring to the mythical Kaledonian boar hunt, led by the hero Meleager. The names painted around the figures, however, are nonsense. On one side, the hunters carry spears, while on the other, they also use bows and wear pointed caps. All of the hunters are mounted on horses.

For the latest information about this object, Kylix Depicting Kalydonian Boar Hunt, visit the Online Collection of the Walters Art Museum.
