Oltos was an Athenian red-figure cup-painter and one of the Pioneers of the red-figure technique, active c. 525–500 BC. He was one of the most prolific early red-figure painters, decorating cups, stamnoi, and amphorae. His work shows the experimental spirit of the early red-figure period.
Scholarly Controversies
Some debate about the extent of his early black-figure work and whether all attributed bilingual pieces are genuinely his.
