Attic Red-Figure Cup Fragment

Red-figure Oltos · Kylix · about 510–490 B.C.
Bowl fragment with start of stem preserved on underside. Interior: in the tondo, a partially preserved helmeted warrior carrying a spear to left. An inscription behind him: CMNO. The first preserved letter of the inscription might be a miswritten epsilon and, if so, the inscription could be restored to read: M]EMNO[NKALOS. The artist Oltos, who may have made this cup, favored the kalos name Memnon.
