Fragmentary Apulian Red-Figure Pelike

Red-figure Suckling - Salting Group · Pelike · about 360–350 B.C.
Dionysos, seated with Ariadne, holds out a small kantharos towards a small Eros figure, who is grabbing hold of a satyr. Held by the leg, and appearing as though about to fall, the satyr looks back angrily. Above another, larger, Eros, flies with a wreath above Dionysos and Ariadne. To right a seated maenad (thyrsos, tambourine) and a standing satyr playing pipes beside a bell-krater. At the lower left is a reflecting pool.
