Attic Red-Figure Stemless Kylix

Red-figure Q Painter · Kylix · about 380 B.C.
This cup has the same interior decoration as 79.AE.199 except that it has a central impression of a ring with four horseshoes surrounded by seven palmettes. It also has the same three-figured construction on the exterior. On one side a seated female looks over her shoulder to the right, her right arm raised as if holding a staff; she wears a sakkos. To the right, a nude satyr places his right hand on her shoulder, his left hand on his hip. To the left, a satyr walk to the left and turns over his shoulder, left hand on his hip. On the other side are three males. The central bearded male walks right with his left arm upraised as if holding a staff. He holds a long object (torch?) in his right hand. Two youths flank him, each striding away from the center and looking back with right arms upraised. The decoration of the handle zones and underside are the same as on 79.AE.199.
