Fragment from upper part of vessel, including small part of mouth. The body depicts Achilles (youthful male wearing chlamys and Phyrgian helmet) about to slay Penthesilea (red cap) at the foot of a tree.He attacks from left with a raised spear, and holds the head of the fallen Amazon. She faces right, and uses both arms to struggle against her attacker. At the upper right edge of the fragment is the bent arm, wearing a sleeve in added red, of another figure. Between Achilles' head and the tree is a rosette (largely effaced). Interior, black, with undecorated zone below.
