δίκην τιννύς Olymp.Hist. p.455 D.; gen. pl. ἐκ‐τιννύντων v.l. in D.S. 16.29; ἐκ‐τιννύω, = pendo, Gloss.; δίκας τιννύω, = pendo poenas, ib. [The 1st syll. is prob.always long (even in E. Or. 323); the spellings ἀποτεινύτω (Crete, v B.C.), ἀποτειννυέτω (Avrom., i B.C.) (v. ἀποτίνυμι), and the form of the root (τι‐: τει‐: ποι‐ (v. τίνω), never τι‐, which belongs only to τίω) show that the true spellings are τεινυ‐, later τειννυ‐, still later τιννυ‐ with ι long by nature: the early forms ἀποτινυ[μεν (v. ἀποτίνυμι), [τ]ινυμε[νο] GDI 5125 A 3 (Crete) remain unexplained: τίν[υ]σθαι is uncertain in IG 12(9).1273 (p. viii) (Eretria, vi B.C.): perh. τινυ‐ existed as well as τεινυ‐.]
