Water jar (hydria) depicting the struggle between Herakles and Triton

Herakles and Triton struggling in presence of draped female and draped male figure. Greek inscriptions in the field. Behind the Nereid, vertically, "Elparetos kalos" (ELPAR[E]T[OS] KALOS); above Triton's tail, "Mnesila" (M[N]ESILA); below, "kale"; to the left of Triton's head, "Amthoe" (AMPHITHOE) (for Amphithoe); to the right of Herakles, "kalos" (KALOS); below, vertically, "Choiron kalos" (CHOIRON KALOS). Below main picture a narrow band of figures; on shoulder a quadriga with driver in white chiton, flanked by groups of three dismounted battling warriors, the center one of each group sinking to one knee. Broken and repaired. Back restored.
