Two-handled jar (Nolan amphora) with Zeus pursuing Ganymede

Red-figure the Pan Painter · Amphora · about 470 B.C.
Side A: Zeus, holding a scepter, pursues Ganymede and grabs the boy's right arm as he attempts to flee. The boy carries a hoop and hoop-stick, common toys and often attributes of Ganymede. Both wear decorated himations and wreaths added in purple. Side B: A wreathed and draped youth advances to the right while looking over his shoulder and carrying a joint of meat in his left hand. An elaborate band of palmettes serves as the ground line for both scenes.
