Statue of a Lion

2nd century A.D.
Statue of a lion with the head turned slightly towards its right. The legs and tail are missing, and the front part of the lower jaw is a modern restoration. The ribs and some musculature of the hind legs are visible. The lion was likely originally in a crouching position. The mane is composed of large pointed locks that curl slightly at the ends.
