Stamped Amphora Handle

Amphora · 100-150 CE
This stamp is frequently found in Rome. The highly abbreviated inscription has been expanded as follows: FIG(lina) E(t) D(oliaria) P. P( ), AE(li) F(usciani), or perhaps P( ), P. Ae(li) F(usciani) -- "the land and pottery of P( ), of P. Aelius Fuscianus." The pottery is south Spanish, and on the basis of finds in Monte Testaccio, the stamps of this variety have been dated to the first half of the second century CE.
