Ring with oval bezel

first half of 5th century B.C.
This ring is gold-plated over a silver base. A nude man faces a clothed woman on the engraved bezel. The artist made the oval bezel separately and attached it over a projection on the hoop. The form and proportions of the bezel, as well as the addition of beaded wire on both sides of the hoop near the bezel, indicate that it was probably made in one of the Greek colonies in South Italy.
