Red-Figure Pelike

Red-figure Pelike · first half of 5th century B.C.
Extensively misfired. A) Theseus and the Minotaur; the Minotaur faces right, and holds a rock in his right hand. He grasps Theseus' sword with his left. Theseus attacks from the right, with his sword in his left hand. With his right he grasps the Minotaur's throat. B) Theseus and Sinis; Sinis (nude, bearded, back view) flees to left, looking back. His outstretched right arm is grasped by Theseus, who moves towards the right. With his right arm he reaches for a branch on the tree in the background. The drawing on both sides is crude and the figures ill-proportioned.
