Name & Etymology
Named after the kalos inscription "Antiphon kalos" ("Antiphon is beautiful") that appears on several of his vases. Kalos names were used to praise handsome youths and serve as informal dating evidence.

The Antiphon Painter was an Athenian red-figure cup-painter active c. 490–470 BC. Named by Beazley after the kalos name Antiphon found on several of his cups, he was a competent painter of the generation following the Pioneers.
