Paestan Black-Figure Lekythos

Black-figure Lekythos · about 350 B.C.
The vessel is decorated with black glaze around the base, the mouth, and the handle. It depicts a woman seated to the left holding a sprig in her outstretched right hand. She uses her right arm to support her on a seat comprised of lines and dots in added white and is probably meant to represent a rocky landscape. She is dressed a girded chiton and himation and wears a sakkos in her hair with ribbons in added white. Under the handle is a large palmette with dot rosettes flanking central frond and tendrils ending in campanula.
