Mold of a Woman Holding a Child

Mold of a Woman Holding a Child

late 4th century B.C.
Partially preserved front mold of a female holding a child. She is represented from the thighs up, her head turned slightly to one side. Her hair is arranged in a melon coiffure which is covered by a veil that hangs down the back. On her lap she holds a child of whom only the leg and the outline of the back remain. The mold may represent a woman attending a banquet scene. Based on comparanda, the child's arm would have been raised.
