Mold for the Bust of Demeter or Kore

Shop of Zopyras, Ra and La · 4th century B.C.
Front mold of a bust of Demeter or Kore wearing a veiled polos (cylindrical crown) and holding a torch at her right shoulder. Her hair is pulled back and composed of wavy well-defined locks. She wears pendant earrings, with the right earring a bit shorter. She has a full rounded face with lidded eyes. The back of the mold is inscribed with four Greek characters: rho and alpha at the top, pi and upsilon on the lower right. The inscription is shorthand for, [ZO]PY[RAS], RA, two names associated with the workshop that created the mold, "Zopyras, Ra, and La," active in the mid-fourth century B.C.
