Low drinking cup (kylix)

Black-figure The Protome Painter · Kylix · 6th century B.C.
Clay pale buff, with occasional bits of white stone. Decoration in poor black glaze, occasionally burned red, and applied violet red and white. Interior: large bearded head to right in reserved center, remainder black with three concentric red lines; Exterior: bars on vertical edge, then a rude lotus and palmette ornament with added red and white; on the bottom concentric red and black circles. Shallow bowl with vertical edge; base-ring; strap handles with projecting thumb-pieces.
