Knob-handled patera

Interior: Female head emerging from flower within a circular frame of two reserved stripes. Surrounded by flowers, scrolling stems, and acanthus. Exterior: Side A: Nude youth, seated to right on folded drapery, holding a syrinx in his left hand. Eros flies toward him from the right with a situla in his right hand and a wreath in his left. At the far right, a draped woman is seated to the left, holding a fan in her hidden left hand. Side B: Draped woman, Eros, youth. Interior: Within a simple circular frame of two reserved stripes, a female head, drawn in three quarter view, is emerging from a large white flower surrounded by flowers, scrolling stems, and acanthus. The woman or goddess wears a fillet and a yellow necklace. A groundline of dotted egg-pattern creates an exergue with three flowers in it. Surrounding the tondo is a white vine with yellow and white leaves. A: A nude youth is seated to the right on folded drapery, holding a syrinx in his left hand. Eros flies toward him from the right with a situal (which may have originally been yellow) in his right hand and a wreath in the left. Eros wears shoes, a kekryphalos, necklace, and bracelets. At the far right a woman is seated to the left, holding a white and yellow fan in her hidden left hand. The object in her right hand is missing, the the traces preserved by her knees suggest it was a fillet. She wears a chiton, himation, shoes, and a yellow bracelet. A large flower grows at the lower center, and rosettes float in the field. B: A woman is seated to the right, holding a branch in her right hand and a white or yellow "xylophone," now quite eroded, in her left. She wears a chiton, himation, shoes, a kekryphalos, a necklace, and bracelets. In the center stands (or hovers) Eros, wearing shoes, kekryphalos, necklace, bracelets, and anklets. He carries a bunch of grapes in his right hand and a ball (?) in the left. At the right, a nude youth wearing a fillet is seated to the left on his cloak, holding a wreath in his right hand and a tray of offerings in his left. In the field are rosettes and fillets; a laurel grows beside Eros. Below each handle is a large palmette with smaller sprays in the tendrils on either side.
