The intaglio is deeply engraved with a portrait bust of the Greek orator Demosthenes, who wears a mantle over his right shoulder; he faces towards his left with furrowed brows. Demosthenes is shown with a full beard and mustache. On the right of the gem is an inscription with the artist Dioskourides's signature in Greek.
