Head of a Youth

A hollow bronze head of a youth. The facial features are rendered with rather severe modeling. The mouth is tiny, about the length of the nose from nostril to nostril. There is little indication of lips and the opening of the mouth is little more than a horizontal gash in the face. The nose is long and straight. The eyes are close-set, the eyelids rendered as high ridges with the eyes, irises, and pupils consisting of raised and depressed surfaces. The locks of hair framing the face and at the back of the neck are long and either straight or sickle-shaped. The hair at the front of the head is uneven. The eyebrows are indicated by stippling. The majority of the hair on the head is rendered as shallow chisel marks. The ears are thick and exaggerated. At the jaw line on the left side of the face, is a shallow rectangular depression and a similar location on the right side contains a rectangular patch. There is also a tiny hole at the top of the head.
