Geometric Oinochoe

Geometric Oinochoe · about 900 B.C.
A wide, squat trefoil oinochoe with geometric designs. The handle is decorated with horizontal stripes. The neck, mouth and shoulder are solid glaze except for a panel under the spout with vertical lines. On the shoulder a panel has chevron and lattice patterns. On either side, under the panels, is a small protruding lug. The rest of the vessel is made up of dots and a wide band around the thickest part. The bottom off the body is solid glaze. The glaze is unevenly fired so that it is redder near the bottom. Int: undecorated. There is a large crack and a small hole in the body.
