Fragments of a Lakonian Kylix

The tondo is decorated with the sons of Boreas, Zetes and Kalais, moving to the right, grapping the throats of two Harpies at the left, who look back over their shoulders. The Boreads have long hair with added purple wreaths, wear winged sandals, and the nearer figure holds an unsheathed sword in his right hand. The Harpies have angular double wings and each wears a short chiton. At the feet of the four figures is a reclining lion with its tongue out. The scene is encircled with a pomegranate frieze.

The exterior of the cup is decorated with horizontal palmettes that extend from the handles, which are not preserved. Below this zone red bands and horizontal lines alternate between decorative friezes of rays and tongues. Concentric circles continue the painted decoration to the stem. The foot is painted black both inside and out, with a reserved base.
