Fragmentary Painted Male Head
late 6th century B.C.
Preserved are most of the face and part of the hair of a male figure. The upper left side of the head has broken away; the nose and some of the curls of the hair are also missing. The clay is a reddish-orange and coated with white slip. Surviving polychomy consists of red for the face and black and brown for the eyes. The mouth is upturned and the hair is divided into straight locks coming forward over the forehead and terminating in tight curls with holes at the centers
