Fragmentary Attic Black-Figure Kylix

Black-figure Amasis Painter · Kylix · 540–530 B.C.
Interior: tondo- gorgoneion (white teeth, added red and incision)
Exterior: Side A: A male warrior to the right, with a shield and spear, battles a female warrior to left, wearing a peplos, with a helmet, shield and spear. Side B: male warrior to the right, with Boeotian shield (gorgoneion blazon?) and spear, battling a female to left, with a helmet, shield and spear. At the bottom of the bowl, three narrow black rings, a red band, and then black to the stem.
The stem has red on the moulding, but is otherwise black. The underside of the foot is reserved except for the painted edge and interior of hollow.
Under each handle are a lotus and palmette with tendrils that frame the handle.
