Engraved Scarab with Aphrodite Bathing in a Gold Swivel Ring

about 350 B.C.
A crouching nude woman holds her arms crossed against her chest in a pose similar to the 3rd century B.C. Crouching Aphrodite created by the sculptor Doidalsas. She wears a necklace and her hair is bound back but falls on her shoulders. On the reverse, a scarab beetle is carved. The ring is original to the stone, with conical terminals anchoring the looped wire that hold the cornelian in place.
