Engraved Scarab Gem Inset Into a Ring

late 6th century B.C.
The scarab is engraved with the head of a ram to left and a star below the jaw. The border is carelessly cross-hatched. The scarab is simple but carefully worked, with a low ridge carination. It is set in a silver mount, which swivels within a tapering solid silver hoop. The silver is covered with a silver chloride deposit.
