Cameo with Bust of the Goddess Isis with Modern Mount

Cameo with Bust of the Goddess Isis with Modern Mount

200–30 B.C.
.1: A cameo gem with a bust of the goddess Isis in profile, facing to the left. Isis is shown wearing a vulture headdress, a crown with horns flanking the solar disc, and a broad, striped pectoral; Venus rings are visible on her neck. Her long hair overlaps the pectoral and is held in place with a headband. There is damage at the lower right edge of the cameo.

The gold mount (.2) with beaded rim is a modern addition. The gem and gold mount were previously set into a modern jeweled mount in the 18th century (.3).
