Attic Red-Figure Pelike fragment

Red-figure Siren Painter · Pelike · about 470 B.C.
Shoulder fragment of a pelike (81.AE.198.149-.163, 85.AE.423.23 and 88.AE.33), preserving a band of ornament (black-figure palmettes, arranged obliquely, alternately up and down) and the head of a lyre player. His hair is rendered with dilute wash, and he wears a wreath. Two letters above his head .]ПO[.. identify him as Apollo. The left arm of his kithara is also preserved and the joining fragment 81.AE.198.154 gives much of its right side. The graffito is inscribed on the neck above the palmette band.
81.AE.198.154 and 81.AE.198.163 give the torso and head of a woman (ΛE[TO], inscribed) facing Apollo.
