Attic Red-Figure Pelike

Red-figure Pelike · 450–440 B.C.
A: nude male youth to the right, holding a walking staff and torch, and wearing a ribbon with hanging loops on his head; a cloak is draped over his left shoulder. He looks back at a woman who is playing a pipe. She wears her hair in a bun, decorated by a headband. Her garment is sleeveless with much patterned decoration (dots, squares, zigzags) on its upper half. Below, the garment is pleated and decorated with small lines on each of the folds. Both figures are located within a patterned frame (pendent lotus buds above, pomegranate net on the sides).

B: Two male youths wearing himatia, facing one another. The youth on the right holds a staff. Both are in profile, located within a patterned frame (as on A).
