Attic Red-Figure Kylix Fragment

Red-figure Epeleios Painter · Kylix · about 510–490 B.C.
Bowl fragment. Exterior: three warriors to left, partially preserved. At the far left, the leg of a figure. At center, a warrior wearing a low-crested Corinthian helmet and greaves, holding a round shield (device: eagle to left). At the far right, the last warrior, his left foot, thighs, and shield preserved. His shield is emblazoned with a satyr kneeling on the ground to left holding a trumpet. By mistake, the artist has let the trumpet extend beyond the rim of the shield. Includes three joined fragments (86.AE.355.1, .3, .4). Interior: black.
