Red-figure Painter of Philadelphia 2449 · Oinochoe · about 470 B.C.
Upper part of vessel, composed of seven fragments. The horizontal handle is cylindrical in section, the vertical flat.
Exterior, side A: Athlete with a strigil, moving to right, looking back. He stands by a stool (now lost), on which lie folded clothes. Kalos-inscription. Side B: Athlete, with head and legs to right, standing beside a turning post. He holds a strigil in his left hand, and rests his right at his hip. An aryballos and sponge hang beside him. Kalos-inscription.
