Attic Red-Figure Cup Fragment

Red-figure Nikosthenes Painter · Kylix · about 510–500 B.C.
The inside of the fragment preserves the top edge of the tondo, with the wreathed head of a male figure. On the outside of the fragment are four jumpers; two face right and the other two face left. Each figure carries jumping weights (halters) in both hands. The jumper on the far right leans back with his arms outstretched, holding the weights in front of him, apparently about to jump. The others hold the weights to either side. Each jumper is fully nude, save for a wreath around his head.
