Attic Red-Figure Askos

Red-figure about 410 B.C.
On the shoulder of this small askos, two running figures, a boar and a lion race toward the spouted end of the vessel. The groundline upon which they run encircles the entire body of the vessel, below the spout and handle root.
The remains of a red wax export seal are preserved on the underside, it reads: “Ferdinando II Re del Re[...] di Antichità” and dates to the reign of King Ferdinand II of the Two Sicilies (1830–1859).
