Attic Black-Figure Neck Amphora, Fragmentary

Side A: Theseus and the Minotaur. Theseus attacks the collapsing Minotaur (moving to left, knielauf posture), grasping its arm and about to stab it in the face (tip of sword is visible). Dilute paint indicates bloodshed from Minotaur's arm. To right, a female figure watches, and remains of a youth on either side of the central trio (spectators). Mock inscription beside the Minotaur.

Side B: Warrior arming, putting on his greaves. At center, a warrior (head and arms missing) wearing a cuirass and a short chiton. Helmet on the ground between his legs. Shield propped up by a woman who faces him (head not preserved), wearing peplos. She also holds his spear. Further to right, legs and arm of a man walking to right. At the left of the warrior, a nude youth holding a spear, and behind him, a man wrapped in a mantle, holding a staff.

Frieze of alternating lotus-palmette/palmette-lotus below the ground line, and rays beneath. A similar pattern is preserved on the neck (86.AE.93.1). Triple-reeded handle.
