Apulian Red-Figure Calyx Krater Fragment

Red-figure Krater · about 375 B.C.
Fragment preserves two warriors in combat with a thunderbolt between them. All that remains of the warrior on the left is the left arm, bearing a shield in three-quarter view. A swath of drapery hangs over the arm. The other warrior is more fully preserved save for his legs and right arm. He wears a short tunic and a crested helmet (black visor and ear flaps). His shield has a plain black center, surrounded by black dots, and further black dots around the rim. Above to right is a pair of hands. Interior, black.
