Apulian Ram Head Rhyton

Iliupersis Painter · 375–350 B.C.
Vase in the form of a ram’s head. The head is black except for the eyes, inner ears, and horns, all of which are left in reserve and covered with a reddish-orange wash (black stripes pattern the horns). The bowl attached to the ram's head is short and broad with concave sides and a flaring lip. A wave pattern decorates the lip and there is an enclosed palmette-fan on either side of the handle. Depicted on the bowl is a half-draped young male, holding a strigil (in added white) in his upraised right hand. He sits on a dotted (white) ground line.
