Apulian Fluted Black Nestoris

The vessel is a distinctive shape produced in Southern Italy, named by scholars as a nestoris. It has a high foot, an ovoid body, flaring mouth, two high looping handles that are decorated with discs and two smaller horizontal handles on the sides.
The black surface of the foot and most of the body is decorated with ribbing. Below the plain black mouth, the upper quarter of the body is adorned with an ivy-with-dot-fruit motif in added white.The discs on the upright handles are decorated with a starburst motif surrounded by dots.
