A. support, prop, stay, ς. τοῦ σώματος, of the κνήμη or large bone of the leg, X. Eq. 1.5; αἱ ς. [τῶν πύργων] D.S. 18.70.
b. = παρακερκίς 1, Poll. 2.191 (pl.).
2. fork with which the shaft or pole of a two-wheeled chariot was propped, until the beasts were yoked to it, Lys. Fr. 330 S., Plu. 2.280f: acc. στήριγγαν Maiuri Nuova Silloge 48 (Rhodes).
