Lys. 366, cf. ἀπο‐, κατα‐σποδέω:—Pass., νιφάδι . . σποδούμενος pelted by the storm, E. Andr. 1129; ς. πρὸς πέτρας dashed against the rocks, Id. Hipp. 1238: abs., στρατὸς κακῶς ς. handled roughly, in sorry plight, A. Ag. 670.
II. = βινέω, Ar. Ec. 942, 1016:—Pass., of the woman, ib. 908, Th. 492; of boys, Id. Ec. 113.
III. eat greedily, devour, Id. Pax 1306; ὀβελίαν Pherecr. 55; cf. παίω 111. (There is no indication of any connexion of this Verb with σποδός, except perh. in Cratin. l.c.)
