A. piece of cloth, Hom. (only in Od.), εἴλυμα σπείρων a wrapping cloth, 6.179; σπεῖρα κακά sorry wraps, of a beggar, 4.245; αἴ κεν ἄτερ σπείρου κεῖται without a cerecloth or shroud, 2.102, cf. 19.147, 24.137; σπεῖρον καὶ ἐπίκριον sail and sailyard, 5.318; πείσματα καὶ σπεῖρα [where the ult. is long in arsi] 6.269 (v.l. σπείρας):—later, garment, νυμφιδίου σπείροιο καλύπτρη Euph. 107; cf. σπειρίον.
