σόλος

A. mass or lump of iron, used in throwing, σόλον αὐτοχόωνον Il. 23.826, cf. 839, 844, Eumel. 9, CIG 1541 (Olympia), Sosith. 3.2; distinguished (but not clearly) from the δίσκος by Sch.Il. 2.774, 23.826; in μέγαν περιηγέα πέτρον, . . σόλον Ἄρεος, A.R. 3.1366, σόλος seems = δίσκος, cf. Nic. Th. 905 (et Sch.), Q.S. 4.436.
