A. animal's skin, hide, τὸ δὲ ς. ἀνδρὶ καλύπτρη, of a lion's skin, Call. Fr. 142, cf. Theoc. 25.142, AP 6.35 (Leon.), 165 (Phal.); outer husk of a nut, Nic. Al. 270: heterocl. pl. σκύλα Id. Th. 422: σκυλος is f.l. for σκῦτος in Herod. 3.68.
