Inscrr.; σαλπικτής, SIG 153.68 (Delos, iv B.C.), IG 3.1288, POxy. 519.16 (ii A.D.), etc.; Boeot. σαλπικτάς IG 7.1773 (Thespiae, ii A.D.), σαλπιγκτάς ib.3195 (Orchom., i B.C.); later σαλπιστής, ib.9(2).525.4 (Thessaly, ii B.C.), 3.1285 (Attica, i A.D.), 7.3196 (Orchom. Boeot.), Sammelb. 4591.3, etc.; also in Plb. 1.45.13, D.H. 4.17, Apoc. 18.22, etc.
