A. bring into a measure of time or proportion, περιόδους Plu. 2.350e; repeat a verse in proper time or rhythm, i.e.scan it, D.H. Comp. 18:—Pass., ἐν δυσὶ τετραχόρδοις ῥ. τὰ μέρη (sc. τοῦ οὐρανοῦ) Arist. Fr. 47; λιθοῦται καὶ ‐ίζεται Philostr. VA 3.57.
II. generally, order, arrange, compose, Arist. Metaph. 1075b12, Spir. 485b2:—Pass., Id. Ph. 245b9.
2. of persons, educate, train, τὰ παιδικά Pl. Phdr. 253b, cf. X. Cyr. 8.8.20; τὰν ψυχάν Ti.Locr. 103d; τὸ πρόσωπον Luc. Merc.Cond. 30; τὰς γνώμας Id. Anach. 22; [δένδρα] ῥ. ὥστε πρὸς μεσημβρίαν βλέπειν train them, Thphr. CP 3.7.9; ῥ. τινάς bring them to order, correct them, GDI 5075.35 (Crete); ῥ. καὶ διδάσκει τινὰς κινεῖσθαι κινήσεις Stoic. 2.28; ῥ. λύπην ὅπου define the place of grief (referring to the line before), S.
