A. gate-fastener, he that keeps the gates of hell, epith. of the god who held this office, Ἀΐδαο πυλάρταο Il. 8.367, cf. 13.415, Od. 11.277 (expld. by Apion as ὁ ταῖς πύλαις προσηρτημένος).
