προστυγχάνω

A. obtain one's share of, and generally, obtain, προστυχόντι τῶν ἴσων S. Ph. 552; ἐμοῦ κολαστοῦ προστυχών Id. El. 1463: c. dat., meet with, hit upon, Pl. Lg. 844b, 893e, Plt. 262b, Sph. 246b.

3. = πρόσειμι, φασι τῷ ἐμβρύῳ προστυγχάνειν ἕτερον χιτῶνα Sor. 1.58.

4. abs., ὁ προστυγχάνων the first person one meets, anybody, Pl. Lg. 914b; πᾶς ὁ π. ib. 808e; οἱ αἰεὶ ‐τυγχάνοντες Th. 1.97; ὁ προστυχὼν Φρύξ Herod. 3.36: so in neut., τὰ προστυχόντα ξένια whatever fare there was, E. Alc. 754; ἐρρύφεον τὸ προστυχόν anything that came handy, Hp. Acut. 39; but τὸ προστυχόν casualness, Pl. Ti. 34c; πράξει τὸ π. ἑκάστοτε will act offhand, Id.
