A. broad petal of the poppy or anemone, so called because lovers took omens from it, laying it on the left hand, and striking it with the right, and it was a good omen if it burst with a loud crack, Theoc. 11.57, cf. Nic. Fr. 74.43, Poll. 9.127 ; τῷ μηκῶνος π. J. AJ 3.7.6 (vulg. πλαταγῶνι) ; cf. τηλέφιλον.
