πήγανον

A. rue, Ruta graveolens, Diocl.Fr. 138, Theopomp.Hist. 177(a), Alex. 127.8, Thphr. HP 1.3.4, al., Nic. Al. 413 ; π. ὀρεινόν, ἄγριον, mountain rue, Ruta halepensis, Dsc. 3.45 (but π. ἄγριον, = μῶλυ, ib.46) : prov., οὐδ’ ἐν δελίνῳ οὐδ’ ἐν πηγάνῳ, i.e. scarcely at the edge or beginning of a thing, because these herbs were planted for borders in gardens, Ar. V. 480 ; cf. περίκηπος.
